Notre Dame Football: ’19 Offer Marquez Beason Talks Notre Dame Offer
Notre Dame is getting after top talent early.
Notre Dame has offered several recruits from the ’19 class lately.
Yesterday, the Irish offered one of the top sophomores from the state of Texas – Marquez Beason. He plays 5A football at Bishop Dunne in Dallas, who played for a state championship last season.
I caught up with Marquez last night to get his thoughts on his offer and to find out a little bit about him as a football player.
Beason talked about Irish staff visiting his school to check up on him previous to today’s offer.
“They came down to my school this year, but I hadn’t talked to them.
Beason is listed as an athlete. He lines up all over the field for his current program. I asked him which position he thinks he will play at the college level. Here’s what he said.
“In high school. I want to play everything. In college, I just want to help the team. Some games, it could be on the offensive side and some games it could be on the defensive side. Basically, I’m an X factor.”
“On offense, I see myself as a receiver and on defense, I see myself as a cornerback.”

I asked Beason which schools are recruiting him the hardest so far.
“SMU, Oklahoma and Texas A&M have been in the most contact with me. I’ve visited Oklahoma, SMU and TCU.”
Beason then spoke to me about Notre Dame.
“They have a great tradition and they have a great program and I like what the coaching staff is doing with the players over there. They have a great fan base. Distance is not a factor. I just want to have a great college experience.”
“Since they offered me, I’ve been talking it over with my family to see if I’m going to visit this summer or next summer. Distance is not a factor in my decision.
He then spoke about academics and what he wants to study after he graduates high school.
“I take academics very seriously. I’m going to study business in college.”
Beason told me about the unfortunate ending he had to his season.
“We made it to State. I didn’t get to play because I got injured two days before the State game. I was playing db and I landed on my ankle. It was a high ankle sprain. It’s healed now though. I’m running track and I have a meet tomorrow.”
"“I’ve been playing football ever since I was three years-old. I always played up a league. Football is my life. Football is my everything. I want to help my family.”"
Marquez Beason is an intriguing player. He can do a lot of jobs for his team.
You can really see the track skills in the way he runs.
Offensively, Beason lines up all over the field. He lines up at slot, wide receiver and takes snaps as a wildcat quarterback.
I really like him as a receiver. He runs smooth, polished routes and has the speed to burn teams deep. What I really like is how well he tracks the ball. His ball skills are fantastic.
He’s a long stride runner and when he picks up speed, he’s gone. He also has great strength for his size, good balance and elusiveness. He breaks tackles often.
On defense, his length at cornerback is exceptional. He definitely has the athleticism to be great at the position and it wouldn’t surprise me if the Notre Dame staff are looking at him on defense. Taller corners are becoming a hot commodity at the college level.
