Notre Dame has offered an explosive linebacker from Ohio, Brian Asamoah.

“I feel pretty good about the offer. I’m really excited about it,” Asamoah stated.

He went on to explain his contact with the Notre Dame so far and how the offer came about.

“It’s a school I’ve been talking to for quite a while. For them to finally pull the gun is a blessing. I’ve been talking to Coach Elston for quite a while now, just building a relationship. So, I knew he was going to offer, I just didn’t know when. I’m pretty excited about that.”

Asamoah explained his experience during his visit in ’16 and his thoughts on Notre Dame as a whole.

“When I went to the game versus Miami, they played a really great style of football and I’m pretty excited about what they do. What I’m most excited about is how prestigious they are in the academic world and how much weight a degree from Notre Dame carries.”

I asked him what he thought of the defensive staff and scheme. Here’s what he had to say.

“They changed their defensive coordinator but he knows a lot about football. I’m pretty excited about the program.”

I asked Brian what his thoughts were on leaving the state of Ohio to go to college. He explained.

“When I started this recruiting process, I decided that I’m not going to let home keep me from the best system and the best situation for me.

“If I have to stay home because it’s the best situation for me, that would be great, but I’m not going to let that stop me from making the best decision for me to grow as a man, play good football and reach all my goals.”

I asked the talented linebacker which schools had been recruiting him the hardest so far in his recruitment.

“I’d have to say Penn State, Ohio State and Pitt.”

Asamoah went on to tell me about him and his teammates preparations for next season.

“We’re taking this time to prep and get our bodies right, learn the system a little bit better, add a few extra pieces that we need and get ready for a phenomenal senior year.”

“I’m running track this year to increase my foot speed and prep me as football is my number 1 priority right now in sports. Basketball could potentially injure me so that’s why I sat out the season.”

I then asked him what his weight is at now and where he feels it needs to be going into his senior season.

“I’m weighing in at 205 right now and I’m fine with maintaining that. The highest I’ve weighed is 210. My athleticism and my speed are things that make me an exceptional player so I’d like to keep that. I don’t have to bulk up right now or anything of that nature so I’m happy with 205.”

Asamoah explained to me how he felt about Notre Dame’s successful ’18 recruiting class.

“Right now, Notre Dame is sitting at #3. They’ve got some good players. I see that they have a couple linebackers commit. They have a top quarterback and a top safety commit as well. So far, they’re looking pretty good.”

“They’re acquiring a lot of pieces on defenses which is something that they struggled with, so that’s a good sign that they’re moving in the right direction.”

I asked Brian Asamoah if he was planning to return for another visit to Notre Dame before his decision date. Here’s what he told me.

“Yes. Right now my weekends are booked, just getting ready and taking care of school stuff. I would talk to my older brother and try to set a time to come back down to visit Notre Dame.”

He then informed me that he had previously cut down a list and set a decision date, both things that may get shaken up with the recent Notre Dame offer.

“I had all ready cut down to a top 6 last week. I set a timeline for to commit April 21st.”

In closing, Asamoah told me which positions Notre Dame is recruiting him to play.

“A buck position or rover.”

I’m very impressed with Brian Asamoah’s film and honestly, I’m surprised he isn’t talked about more as well as ranked higher on a national level. He plays very high talent football in Ohio and shows extremely strong traits and fundamentals.

If you don’t feel like watching his whole film, all you need to see is the first play. He comes off the edge on a run play with incredible burst and shows his amazing strength by absolutely slamming the back into the ground.

Very impressive.

Asamoah is a highly conditioned athlete with a strong, chiseled physique. What really impresses me is his elite foot speed. Also very notable, he breaks down extremely well and keeps an exceptional pad level.

At outside linebacker, he shows great awareness and sets the edge, keeping very good containment. He has the quickness and athleticism to burst into the ball carrier for losses if they come his way, or the speed to track them down in the backfield if they go the opposite direction.

I see similarities in Asamoah’s game as I do in top linebacker recruit Dallas Gant, another Notre Dame target.

Asamoah is also an exceptional pass rusher. I could see him blitzing the quarterback effectively at the next level. He arrives with great speed and has strong hands that help him apply pass rush moves effectively.

At running back, he’s also quite dynamic. He hit the holes with a full head of steam and shows quick-twitch movements in order to adjust his direction and make people miss.

His strength allows him to break a lot of tackles as well. He doesn’t typically go down on first contact.

Although he’ll certainly play on the defensive side of the ball at the college level, I have no doubt in my mind that he could be a solid running back for a Power 5 program as well.

Brian Asamoah is a fantastic talent and the Irish staff know it.

I’m sure they will be working very hard between now and his April 21 decision date to get him on campus, familiar with the program, comfortable with the coaching staff and informed about the great academic culture that Notre Dame has to offer.
