Notre Dame Football Offers Florida TE George Takacs – In-Depth Breakdown.
Notre Dame is looking for another contributor to Tight End U.
George Takacs has been on Notre Dame’s radar for a while now.
I’ve noticed discussions about him on Irish message boards for some time.
With his NFL tight end body (6’7, 236lbs.), 25 total offers, including other academic powerhouses in Duke and Vanderbilt, Takacs seems like a no-brainer to those who feel that taking a tight end in this class is necessary.
Many Irish fans believe that as Notre Dame doesn’t have a lot of room in this year’s loaded class, a class they happen to be doing very well in, they should pass on a tight end in ’18 as they landed Brock Wright and Cole Kmet on February 1.
The fact of the matter is, although they do currently have a ridiculous tight end depth chart at the moment, Durham Smythe and Tyler Luatua will be gone after this season and Alize “Mack” could possibly roll the dice in the ’18 NFL draft as well.
George Takacs was offered today by the Irish.
There are a lot of things going for the Irish in this one. Takacs is originally from the Indianapolis area, camped at Irish Invasion last year and is a great student.
His measurables and performance at his local Opening Regionals landed him an invite to The Opening in Beaverton, Oregon.
Takacs scored a 101.49 Nike Ranking, good enough to put him in the 99th percentile of all ’18 athletes tested at the camp, as well as a 40-foot power ball, 4.47 sec. agility drill and a 4.87 sec. 40-yard dash. Pretty darned good for a 6’7 (his true height) junior tight end.
Takacs was also named First Team All-District and First Team All-Conference last season.
George Takacs looks to have a huge career ahead of him as a college tight end. He lines up as an attached and detached tight end and is effective either way.
I really like Takacs blocking game. He certainly isn’t afraid of contact, and shouldn’t be with his huge size advantage at the high school level. He absolutely trucks kids, often. He shows a bit of nastiness in his blocking. He keeps working until the echo of the whistle, something that coaches love.
He shows good technique as well. He squares up his opponent and uses great hand placement and drives his legs well. His pad level can get a little too high at times, something he won’t be able to get away with at the college level.
Being 6’7, his pad level can be difficult to keep at the proper height, but his size advantage, strength, and aggressiveness are such that it doesn’t affect him on the field for Gulf Coast High School.
George Takacs is also a very good receiving tight end. He shows a good burst off the line, something that isn’t always easy for a kid his height and runs polished routes.
I especially like his drag route that he often runs at his Florida high school. He works his way through traffic really well and isn’t afraid to run through high-traffic areas.
He shows that he can catch the ball well away from his body, which is really important. I expect him to be a nightmare for defenses in general and especially in the red zone. At this time, his speed for his size is above average but not great. After maturing more physically and continuing to grind in the weight room, he should improve this aspect of his game.

If Notre Dame is only looking for one tight end in ’18, this kid is certainly good enough to be that guy. There are rumblings that he is interested in Notre Dame.
We should find out soon how true that is.
