Notre Dame at the 2017 NFL Combine: Highlights, results, and draft predictions

Jarron Jones was extremely unimpressive at the NFL Combine. A middle-round projection for a player who is making scouts weary of his work ethic may have taken a major blow in his draft stock by only competing in three events and finishing with results way worse than people would believe.

His 20.5 inch vertical was four inches worse than any other player in the combine. Add that to a less than average 40-yard dash and a middle of the ground bench press, and you begin to question what NFL team is going to take a chance on this defensive lineman in the draft.

When it comes to Jones, one of the worst indicators of strength is his bench press. With the second longest wingspan in the combine, 35.5 inch arm length, it takes a lot more time for Jones to complete an entire press than other athletes. Although he could have still used better results in the other drills, Jones’ bench press is a number coaches should look at in a perspective that he has to work much harder than other players.

NFL Draft Prediction:

Jones definitely took a blow in draft stock during the combine. He may not fall much farther than a round or two, but he certainly isn’t looking at a second or third round pick anymore. Where you see him is a team like the Baltimore Ravens or Indianapolis Colts who could use a tackle, but don’t need to spend an early round pick on one.

Projection: Baltimore Ravens, 4th round, pick 120.
