I spoke with Litchfield Ajavon lat night about his Notre Dame offer.

The first thing I mentioned to Litchfield was that I had noticed on film that he was a great hitter. Here’s what he had to say about his pleasure to drop the hammer on the football field.

“I just love to hit. I love to be physical on the football field. It gives me that feeling. Like Ray Lewis once said, “it’s like taking a man’s pride.” It’s just something that I live for, the physicality of football. That’s why I started playing football.”

Ajavon explained more. “I work on it everyday, getting in the weight room. Just trying to be as physical as possible because once somebody runs the ball at you and you hit them hard, it’s going to be hard for them to run at you a second time.”

“First, it was a great honor to receive an offer from such a prestigious school like Notre Dame with great tradition, academic excellence and great football,” said Ajavon, regarding receiving an offer from Notre Dame.

“I was in New York on spring break and I got a text from my coach telling me to give coach Clark Lea a call. I wasn’t expecting anything, just to introduce myself and build a relationship. He told me he watched my film and was impressed by it and offered me a scholarship,” he explained.

Litchfield went on to explain that he wasn’t at all expecting an offer from Notre Dame.

“It was completely out of the blue.” he said.

“I can’t tell you how shocked I was. It was overwhelming to have a well-known school like Notre Dame offer you chance to go and study and play football there. So, it was a great joy. I told my dad and he didn’t believe me at first. He didn’t believe me so I had to do a lot of talking and then he finally believed me,” Ajavon said with a laugh.

"“Not every day I come home and say “Hey dad. I just got offered from Notre Dame.””"

I asked Ajavon if Notre Dame was the type of school that he was interested in being a part of. Here’s what he told me.

“When looking for a school, I try to find one that’s a great academic fit, one that has something I want to study when I get to college. Despite that, I’ve always heard of Notre Dame, the athletics. I’ve always heard it’s a great school, from what I’ve heard about it. The main thing I kept hearing was the great tradition and academic excellence.”

Ajavon see’s a lot of similarities between his current school and Notre Dame.

“Being at a school like Episcopal, I was told that it’s just like that. They demand a lot from you academically as well as athletically. So it’s the same thing that I’m going through right now at Episcopal. It was comforting to know that I’m already a fit and getting a head start,” he explained.

“The offer doesn’t really mean anything if you don’t get down there for a visit. So, I have talked about it with my coach and the coach there. When I get back, me and my coach are going to work out a time in the near future to get on campus. I’ve heard a lot about it. I look forward to going to see it and I know it’s going to be another unique visit, like I had at Clemson,” Ajavon answered when I asked about a future visit to Notre Dame.

As you can see in Ajavon’s film, he’s a very aggressive and efficient tackler. His awareness and ability to read the play is advanced for a sophomore.

I really like his frame as well. He should be able to add some good weight, although he’s currently tipping the scales at around 190, which is definitely decent.

I really like Ajavon’s ability to keep his pad level at an effective height while in pursuit. He breaks down well which helps him get low and lay some great hits.

His pass coverage is quite good at this time as well. With two more years of skill development, he should be a very high caliber defensive back when he enters university.

There will be plenty of more offers rolling Litchfield Ajavon’s way in the future. Keep an eye on his connection to Notre Dame. I believe he would be a great fit.
