Washington, D.C. linebacker Shane Lee received an offer from Notre Dame.

Shane Lee is ranked by some recruiting services as the #1 mike linebacker in the country and I agree with them. Apparently, so does the Notre Dame coaching staff who offered him a scholarship this week.
I caught up with Lee yesterday morning to get his thoughts on his recent Irish offer.
“It’s definitely a humbling experience. I’m just blessed to have the opportunity to even explore that option. Notre Dame as a school is fantastic and the football is fantastic. I hope to get to learn more about it,” Lee explained.
I asked him if he had been hoping for or was expecting the offer when it came. “Not really a hope or expectation but it’s another opportunity that I value very much. No prior knowledge of it, but that’s why I want to get up there and get on the coaches and the school to learn more about the place,” answered the 6’0, 242 pound linebacker.
“Most definitely. My parents and I want to get up there. We’re still trying to figure out exactly when,” explained Lee when I asked him if he was planning on visiting Notre Dame.
I asked him if education was important to him. “Most definitely. That’s really important to my family and I. Making sure your future is not necessarily set up for you….making sure no doors are closed. You have options,” he said.
“No. I just value every opportunity the same. It’s truly a blessing that god has given me to have all these schools looking at me. Nobody’s ahead. Everybody’s the same. I just have to do my homework and look at the schools and see what they offer and also see what I’m looking for in a school,” Lee said regarding whether or not he had any favorites at this point.
I asked Lee which position he sees himself playing, as he is 242 at 15 years old and could certainly grow into a defensive end. “I’m not really sure right now but right now, I’m playing mike linebacker and I’ll continue to train.”

Shane Lee is a very intelligent, humble and well-spoken young man. He explained what he’s interested in studying after high school. “Right now, business-marketing. That can change in two years or even longer than then, but business marketing right now.”
I asked Lee to explain to me how he received the offer.
“My coach put me on the phone with Coach Lea and we started conversing and he offered me a scholarship. He wanted to get to know me as a person as well, which is really important. He told me a little bit about the school, what he likes there. He’s kind of new, coming from a different school,” he said. He then spoke more about Coach Lea.
“He kinda told me what Notre Dame is about. He seemed like a really good guy, a family man, which I really liked because I value my family as well, a whole bunch. He was just a really nice guy. I hope to get to meet him in person, pretty soon and talk with him some more.”
Shane Lee is a student athlete at St. John’s College High School and has been teammates with defensive end Kofi Wardlow, who will be a freshman at Notre Dame in ’17. Lee explained what his relationship is like with Kofi and how he has been conversing with him about the Irish.
“Kofi is a great person. Him and I are good friends. He’s also a great football player, very athletic. He was excited when he heard that Notre Dame offered me. He’s not pushing me one way or another, he’s just happy for me.”
As a high school sophomore, Shane Lee literally resembles a starting SEC linebacker. It’s ridiculous.
He’s a polished, well-rounded athlete who can compete in all aspects of the linebacker position. He shows solid instincts in the run game and proves to be a true downhill thumper.
Lee also proves to be fairly efficient in pass coverage, for his position and stature. His coaching staff also use him to rush the quarterback off the edge, something he can do very effectively, especially for a sophomore.
It’s going to be very interesting to see just how good Shane Lee gets as he matures and learns more skills and polishes his fundamentals. He hold several offers including Clemson, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, North Carolina and more.
Shane Lee will continue to work on setting up a visit in the near future, as well as build relationships with the Irish coaching staff. There’s a long way to go between now and February 1, 2019 but it’s great that Notre Daame has their foot in door.
