Although Notre Dame have Indianapolis Cathedral running back Markese Stepp firmly committed, the Irish are looking for another running back to add to their impressive class.

Jashaun Corbin is ranked fairly low among recruiting services but has been blowing up in the recruiting scene recently. He’s received offers from Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Florida, South Carolina, LSU and Notre Dame all in the last month.

The 6’0, 190 pound running back hails from Holy Trinity Episcopal in Melbourne, Florida. In ’16, Corbin rushed for over 1,000 yards for 11 touchdowns and proved to be valuable in the passing game by piling up 619 yards receiving for 7 scores.

On film, Jashaun Corbin shows a similar running style to current Irish running back, Josh Adams. He’s a slightly long strider who has a very high top speed, and likes to run the ball north-south,  with little lateral movement.

He’s also a decisive runner who typically makes 1-2 cuts, then accelerates. Corbin isn’t as big or powerful as Adams, yet, but he has considerable talent as a receiver.

Corbin is used in his current offense, similar to how Notre Dame used C.J. Prosise. They get him the ball in a variety of ways. They line him up in the slot and at wide receiver. He also runs swings, flat patterns and screens out of the backfield for big gains.

Out of the slot, he shows great speed and smooth route running. You can see him pulling in some nice receptions on wheel routes, from this position, in his film.

Corbin also takes the ball from a direct snap on designed runs and also with a full back in front of him. He shows that he’s versatile in that he can play at a high level from many different positions and roles.

I like Corbin’s versatility, ability as a pass catcher out the backfield and as a receiver and his impressive top speed, which makes him a home-run threat. The signs are there that he should be a successful back at the college level.

It’s obviously early in the game for this recruitment to make any predictions. As usual, staff will work hard at setting up a visit, hopefully for this spring. Autry Denson, who is his positional coach as well as Notre Dame’s Florida area recruiter, will definitely be in close contact with him.

There are several other running backs on their board at the moment and they will only be taking one. Georgia running back Christian Turner will be visiting Notre Dame early next month so Corbin may want to visit sooner rather than later if he is truly interested in the Irish.
