I spoke with Michael Love’s father recently, who expressed to me that Michael has been developing many similar traits of his older brother Julian Love, who was named Freshman All-American last year for Notre Dame after having an admirable 2016 season.

Detraiter Love mentioned that Michael is a dynamic slot receiver but also has plenty of potential as a defensive back. His fathersaid Michael is also beginning a growth spurt, similar to the one Julian hit when he was Michael’s age.

I caught up with Michael Love and my first order of business was to find out which position he see’s himself playing at the college level.

“Personally, I like the offensive side of the ball. I like making people miss. That’s the big thing, I’d rather make them miss and score the points than let them score the points,” explained Love. ” I could see myself on the offensive side in college.”

“Also, I could see myself as a defensive back as well. Either one. I’d say I’m pretty versatile, so I can play pretty much any position, whether it’s safety, corner, receiver or running back. I can play it all,” expressed Love. “I’m not sure really what I see myself as, but I would prefer receiver.”

I asked Michael for his thoughts on Notre Dame, his family favorite University.

“I love Notre Dame. I think it’s a great school overall. The tradition is unbelievable. I really like colleges with tradition like that around the country,” expressed Michael. “I really love the atmosphere and what I’ve seen. The buildings are amazing and the campus is awesome.”

“I’ve met a few coaches and they’re really nice people. I’ve been to games and the fans are amazing, the crowd is just amazing, the game is just electrifying, but it’s the tradition that I really love about Notre Dame,” Love explained.

I asked Michael to explain what the situation was like growing up and competing with his older brother.

“When I was younger, my brother was better than me. Going against him, he would always beat me. As I got older, I was able to compete and keep up with him,” said Love. “He was bigger, stronger and faster than me, but as I got older, I became much similar to him, speed-wise and physically.”

“I think he’s doing a very good job at Notre Dame. I’m very proud of him,” Love boasted. “He has a lot of things and great plans ahead of him. I think he has a bright future and I’m excited to see how he does in the next few years.”

Michael Love played for Midwest Boom, 7-on-7, who won the National Championship in Las Vegas this year. he wasn’t at that tournament but was recently called up to play for them in a tournament in Detroit, where he lead the team with 11 touchdown receptions.

I asked Love about his performance and he gave nearly all the credit to his teammates.

“I started off on a lower team and then they moved me up,” explained Love. “Detroit went very well….The play and the IQ of the quarterbacks are amazing and they really help the receivers. I go hard as a receiver and do my best to get open but they pull the ball on the spot.”

“They make my job much easier so I just catch the ball and do what I have to do to try to score,” Love added.

“I would love a Notre Dame offer. I think that would be incredible. Going to school with my brother, we went to high school together so going to college, especially a great school like Notre Dame, would be amazing.” said Love.

“I would love an ND offer and I think if I work hard and I keep doing my thing, I think I could potentially get one,” added Love.

On film, you can see a lot of the high football IQ and natural instincts and athleticism in Michael’s play that you do when you watch his brother Julian on the football field. It will be interesting to see how he develops and which position he settles into most.
