I caught up with Micah Jones to talk about his visit to Notre Dame.

2018 wide receiver commit Micah Jones, a 6’5, 203-pound pass-catcher from Illinois, arrived in South Bend on Wednesday to spend three nights at Notre Dame. I spoke with him to hear how his visit went and what he took in and observed while he was there.

“I went to classes and meetings and got to go out with the guys,” Jones exclaimed. “They are doing really well in practice and it’s the highest tempo I’ve ever seen them,” he added. Jones was able to take in the football team’s spring practice session yesterday.

I asked Jones what he observed at practice. “Just watching the wide receivers, I can tell they are getting better every day. They take coaching really well and everyone is all in. A very together group of guys,” stated Jones.

Jones spoke about his future position coach DelVaughn Alexander. “He’s a great coach. I got to talk to him a lot on and off the field so that was cool for me. Got to know him better personally and I can’t wait to play for him,” said Jones.

The 6’5 wide receiver spoke to me about the current Irish players that he bonded with while on campus. “I’ve been around all the wide receivers but mainly Chase Claypool, Julian Love, John Shannon, Nick Watkins. I’ve actually got to get closer with the whole team and talked to a lot of them,” explained Jones.

While Jones was on campus, there were some talented 2018 recruits on unofficial visits as well. “Thomas Booker. I talked to Michael Dowell and George Takacs,” he explained. Jones said that he got a chance to give the recruits some words of wisdom.

“I just told them that why Notre Dame was the place for me and how it could help them in their future down the line. Just emphasizing how great it was but to think it over and make the right decision,” Jones explained.

Jones spoke about which recruits he and his fellow Irish-committed classmates are currently keying on in terms of doing some their own recruiting for their future school.

“Thomas (Booker) and Amon Ra (St. Brown) and Anthony Schwartz for me right now and I’m sure they’re getting after others.

Micah Jones will be enrolling early at Notre Dame once he completes his first semester as a senior and final football season at Warren Township. His addition to the roster should help fill the void of tall wide receivers that will be left when Equanimeous St. Brown, Chase Claypool and Alize Jones eventually move on.
