Christian Morgan says Notre Dame football is his #1.

After Texas defensive back Christian Morgan visited Notre Dame on the weekend, he headed to Chicago for The Opening Regional event. It was his second Opening Regional that he competed in, which he took part in because he was in the area, and why not? Maybe he would raise his stock.

“I was in the area visiting Northwestern and Notre Dame that weekend and I’d already signed up for the camp, just in case I wanted to go. It turned out to be a good decision,” Morgan said with a laugh.

Christian Morgan posted a 144.00 Nike Sparq Score which was the highest ever recorded in the history of the extremely popular and well-attended camp.

Morgan ran a 4.56-second 40-yard dash, a 4.03-second shuttle drill, a 42.8-inch vertical jump and registered a 43.5-foot power ball throw. These numbers are simply outstanding.

Morgan, who holds 16 offers including Baylor, Northwestern, Texas Tech, Colorado State, Houston, and Vanderbilt, has been in contact with the Irish staff for weeks. He made his way to the midwest this past weekend to see the prestigious school and coaches he’s been speaking with in person.

“I’ve been in contact with coach Lyght for about a month now. He really likes my game and is recruiting me hard. He was my tour guide when I was up there for the visit,” Morgan explained. “I enjoyed my time up there a lot and could definitely see myself going to school there,” he added.

I asked Morgan what a Notre Dame offer would mean to him. “It would mean everything to me. They would hands down be my number 1 school,” stated Morgan. “The history, tradition and academic excellence combined with great football makes ND a very intriguing spot that I could possibly land at,” he added.

Morgan, who boasts a 3.1 GPA and a 20 ACT wants to study business. Considering the strength of Notre Dame’s Mendoza School of Business, where many student-athletes have studied and gone on to do great things professionally, the Porter-Texas star could be a great fit at Notre Dame.

As many top recruits from Texas tend to stay in-state after high school, I asked Morgan if he feels comfortable with the idea of going to school in Indiana. “Proximity to home won’t play a factor in my recruiting. I’m ready to get out of state,” he answered.

I asked Morgan which schools stick out in terms of contacting him the most and showing him the largest amount of interest. “Texas Tech and Northwestern have been recruiting me the hardest,” said Morgan.

Christian Morgan wasn’t unknown before his performance in Chicago, but he wasn’t an often talked about recruit. I’d say that is about to change in a big way.

Notre Dame is looking to add several cornerbacks in the recruiting class of 2018 after coming up short in the last recruiting cycle.

They added Donte Vaughn, Julian Love and Troy Pride Jr. in the 2016 cycle and received a commitment from 2018 cornerback Kalon Gervin, who also had a big day in Chicago on Sunday, so the Irish should be in good shape going forward if they can land a few more talented cornerback in the 2018 class.
