Michigan safety Marcus Fuqua enjoyed his recent visit to Notre Dame and spoke to us about his football career.

Marcus Fuqua put up great numbers during his sophomore season in Southfield, Michigan. He totaled 46 tackles, 6 interceptions (2 returned for touchdowns), 164 interception yards, 6 pass deflections, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.

His impressive performance landed him All-OAA Team and All-Association Team honors. He was also named All-Northern Michigan Team as well as All-County honorable mention in his region.

Fuqua arrived in South Bend Tuesday to tour the Notre Dame campus, facilities and speak with Todd Lyght and other Irish football staff members.

I spoke with the 6’0, 190-pound safety, who boasts a 3.7 GPA to get his reaction to his stop at the University of Notre Dame. “It was great. I loved it up there. I learned a lot about the tradition of Notre Dame,” Fuqua expressed.

“The coaches were great to be around. They talked about their coaching history, how they liked their players, what kind of schemes they run, and how much they value education,” added Fuqua.

As Marcus is a student-athlete from Michigan, I asked him if he grew up a fan of either Michigan or Michigan State. “I’ve always been a fan of both MSU and Mich. I liked ND a lot too,” he answered.

Fuqua spoke about his recruitment and which types of schools interest him. “At this point, I don’t have any type of list or specific schools I’m interested in but I’m interested in any D1 school with my major,” he answered after telling me that he wants to study business.

Given Marcus Fuqua’s versatile skill set, I asked him whether he which safety position he feels he’s best suited to play at the college level.

"“I could play either one. I flourish in the passing game and I also can come up and hit. I’m very versatile so whichever one coach needs me to play, I will play,” answered Fuqua."
