After going from a possible No. 2 pick to the bottom of the first round, former Notre Dame gunslinger, DeShone Kizer, has a list of possibilities in the 2017 NFL Draft. One of those possible landing spots – the Kansa City Chiefs.

Year after year it seems that the Chiefs are looking for a replacement for Alex Smith. The former first overall pick in the 2005 draft has led Kansas City to the playoffs three of his first four seasons with the team, yet is still considered an unreliable quarterback.

Each draft it appears the Kansas City is searching for the next play caller for the Chiefs and this season that QB is DeShone Kizer. With the 27th pick in the opening-round of the 2017 draft, Kansas City is hoping Kizer falls in their lap.

Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller says the Notre Dame product does fall to the Chiefs in the first round of his latest 2017 Mock Draft. Despite the Houston Texans showing keen interest in Kizer, Miller believes Houston will jump Kizer and select Patrick Mahomes with the 25th pick.

Whether the Texans pick Kizer or not will be the biggest factor in Kansas City’s search for a quarterback. As both teams look to add the missing piece to the playoff contending teams, Kizer sits in the middle of a tug-of-rope game of his draft stock.

The Chiefs are appealing to Kizer. They have one of the most explosive second-year players in Tyreek Hill and an incredible deep threat with Jeremy Maclin. With Travis Kelce working at tight end, this receiving unit racked up 3,914 yards and 19 touchdowns last season in an offense without a strong passing game.

Put Spencer Ware in the backfield, and this Kansas City offense has a lot of weapons surrounding a rookie quarterback. With Kizer’s big arm and athleticism, he could utilize every part of this roster.

Head coach Andy Reid has been known to love athletic quarterbacks. His track record shows he knows how to use someone with a strong arm and the ability to run. With Kizer at his side, Reid could create an offense built perfectly to the gunslinger. The result, a dangerous team in Kansas City.

Now, this is all hypothetical. The way mock drafts have been this offseason, Kizer could be the first pick in the draft, and it wouldn’t surprise anyone. He still has a lot of questions left, and teams may or may not adjust him on their draft boards. But for the time being, it’s an interesting thought to think Kizer could end up a Chief.
