6’0″, 195-pound Michael Dowell of St. Edwards in Lakewood, Ohio (same program as Shaun Crawford), had an impressive showing at The Opening Regional in Cleveland on Sunday.

“It was really cool to get out there and compete with some of the best kids in the region. I feel like everyday I seem to be getting better and tougher which is important to me,” Dowell explained. “I scored a 122.”

Dowell got a chance to catch up with some Notre Dame commits while at the event. “I saw Phil (Jurkovec) and we talked about last season and the upcoming season,” added Dowell.

Next, I asked Dowell about his March 31 visit to South Bend where he took in the Notre Dame campus and spoke with the coaching staff in person. “The ND visit was great. I met my position coach and the defensive coordinator,” explained Dowell. ” I thought the campus was beautiful.”

Dowell, who has racked up 20 offers, including from academic powers Yale, Duke and Vanderbilt, has been being recruited as a defensive back by Notre Dame. I asked the talented junior which schools have been recruiting him the hardest. “Michigan State, Iowa State and Iowa,” replied Dowell.

Michael Dowell, who has twin brothers who are student-athletes at Michigan State, is a talented defensive back who could help the Irish further bolster their young and athletic defensive backfield. An Irish offer would not surprise me.
