2017 NFL Draft: It Doesn’t Matter What Round DeShone Kizer Goes in
Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer has gone from a top 10 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft to a potential second-rounder, but either way, his future is the same.

Whether DeShone Kizer goes to the Chicago Bears with the third pick in the NFL Draft or falls to the second round, his future doesn’t change. Maybe how long it takes him to get on a field changes, but his NFL campaign stays the same.
Kizer is a project. He isn’t someone ready to come to the NFL and lead a team to a winning season. Depending on the franchise, Kizer might be able to pull off some wins, but unless it’s the Houston Texans or Kansas City Chiefs, chances are he isn’t someone competing in the playoffs next season.
An early first round selection will only put pressure on Kizer he isn’t ready to handle yet. No NFL team wants or can expect Kizer to be their solution year one. Depending on who he’s learning from, it could even be two or three years before the Notre Dame product is ready to start in the pros.
NFL scouts have realized Kizer isn’t ready yet. His draft stock has fallen, and he’s gone from arguably the best quarterback in the draft to the fourth according to Matt Miller of Bleacher Report. In Miller’s latest mock draft, he isn’t even one of the first four QBs taken, falling to the Arizona Cardinals at No. 45 and the fifth quarterback taken.

Honestly, Kizer’s career couldn’t start off any better than being drafted by the Cardinals. With Carson Palmer returning for at least another season, Kizer would learn behind one of Arizona’s greats. From there, he’d be stepping into an offense that fits perfect with his strong arm and has one of the best defenses in the NFL. Not a bad start to a professional career.
There is reasons to be worried about Kizer’s draft. Fans would have loved to see him be the first quarterback off the board and start his NFL career on a hot note. But falling isn’t a bad plan either. If he finds himself in the right organization, his future is brighter than it would be with any first-round pick.
We aren’t hoping for Kizer to slide, but if it happens, there are reasons to be okay about it. At this point, Notre Dame isn’t hoping to see him walk the stage and hug the commissioner as a top pick, but walk across the stage in Canton, Ohio five years after he retires.
