Former Notre Dame quarterback, DeShone Kizer, could be headed to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Must Read: DeShone Kizer is Hoping Second Round

According to Walter Football, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ newest target with the 30th pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft is DeShone Kizer. Despite the team’s need for a linebacker or defensive back, Pittsburgh apparently wants to add their future quarterback to the roster in the opening round of the this year’s draft.

This isn’t a bad thing for Kizer. He’s a big quarterback with a love for the long ball and the strongest arm in the draft. Coincidentally, Pittsburgh’s current quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, is a massive play caller who’s strong arm makes the deep ball his favorite type of pass.

Realistically, it’s a match made in heaven for Kizer and the Steelers. They need someone to learn behind Roethlisberger for the next few years, and he needs to finish developing. There’s no better place than in an offensive scheme that’s shaped exactly to your strengths.

Kizer isn’t going to be welcomed to Pittsburgh, though. Fans want a pass rusher or a playmaking defensive backer. Sorry, but I’ve covered Notre Dame sports for awhile now, and I’m 100% positive Kizer is neither of those.

People are going to be upset and feel like the Steelers wasted a pick. Plus, it’s Pittsburgh, where no one is afraid to share the opinion on the matter of football. For Kizer, that means a lot of “wasted pick,” ” bust,” and “boos” are headed his way if this report is true.

None of this means his career is in trouble or that he won’t win over the hearts of fans. Heck, all you need to do in the city of Pittsburgh is win a few games, and you can do whatever you want. If you’re a quarterback, especially a good one, you basically receive immortality within the borders of the city.

Kizer, by no means, is going to be part of the welcome parade after the draft if he heads to Pittsburgh. It’s going to take time and effort before he’s accepted by fans. However, this only applies if he’s selected in the first round. No one is going to care if he’s a second round pick. In fact, fans will actually be thrilled to land him anywhere out of the first round.

No matter where Kizer ends up, he’s going to be happy. Getting drafted whether it’s the first or seventh round is a dream come true for every college football player.

Fans on the other hand, probably aren’t going to be too happy their team took a backup quarterback in the first round.
