Notre Dame men’s lacrosse has defeated Marquette, 15-9, in the opening round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

As one of the most dominating teams in lacrosse, Notre Dame destroyed their opening round opponent, Marquette, gaining early momentum. As one of the favorites in this year’s NCAA Tournament, the Fighting Irish are using their talented roster and high-scoring offense to earn their spot in the semifinals for the 8th consecutive season.

Behind Brendan Gleason’s Notre Dame NCAA Tournament record-tying five goals and Brendan Collins’ four goals, the Fighting Irish held off 8-7 Marquette on their way to yet another Elite Eight appearance.

Now, Notre Dame looks forward to playing west coast foe, Denver. As the four and five seeds in the tournament, these two should provide one of the most entertaining matchups of the NCAA Tournament.

12-3 Denver handed Notre Dame one of their five losses on the season, defeating the Irish 11-10 back in March. However, despite their record and regular season victory over the Irish, Denver is the underdog, with Notre Dame receiving 80% of votes on NCAA.com.

How well Notre Dame can actually handle Denver is still a mystery. They may be one of the hottest teams in the NCAA right now, but in the NCAA Tournament, none of that matters. Until everyone is on the field, predictions mean nothing.

Notre Dame has what it takes to walk away NCAA Champions this season. Behind their goal-heavy offense and impeccable goalie, Shane Doss, the Fighting Irish look to earn their spot in the Final Four with a convincing win over No. 5 seed, Denver.
