Miami (FL) Hurricanes – 2016 Record: 9-4

The victory over Miami (FL) represented Notre Dame’s best victory in 2016. The Irish defeated the Hurricanes, 30-27, in a see-sawing battle. After jumping out to a 20-0 lead, the Irish allowed twenty-seven unanswered points. Notre Dame responded with ten unanswered points of their own to finish the game.

The excitement abounds as second year Head Coach Mark Richt looks to take the Hurricanes to the next level. Miami (FL) returns fifteen total returning starters. The Canes must replace Quarterback Brad Kaaya, Tight End David Njoku and Wide Receiver Stacy Coley. Richt places a lot of his hope in Junior Quarterback Malik Rosier who won the position during fall camp.

The “Catholics vs. Convicts” rivalry continues this year in Miami at Hard Rock Stadium. Notre Dame and Miami (FL) last played at South Beach in 1989. In 1989, Notre Dame suffered their lone loss of the season to the Hurricanes, 27-10. In fact, Notre Dame last defeated the Hurricanes in Miami, Florida during their 1977 season.

Miami (FL) needs a Quarterback to really compete on a championship level. By November, the Hurricanes should figure out the Quarterback position. This is bad news for Kelly and the Irish. Notre Dame may wait until 2025 to win their next game in South Florida against the Hurricanes.
