Season Predictions: Notre Dame Football (Wake Forest, Miami FL, Navy, Stanford)
By Andrew Hall
Navy Midshipmen – 2016 Record: 9-5
The Irish fell to the Midshipmen, 28-27, in a neutral site contest in Jacksonville, Florida. Kelly gambled late in the game hoping the defense would get the offense the football back. However, Navy ran their triple option offense to perfection and ran the clock out. Notre Dame and Brian Kelly look to re-establish their dominance this year on Nov. 18.
Ken Niumatalolo returns nine starters from a team that played in the American Athletic Championship. Zach Abey takes over as the Quarterback of Navy’s vaunted triple option attack. Regardless of who Navy installs at Quarterback, the ship continues to sail forward. Under Niumatalolo, the Middies only suffered one losing season.
Notre Dame plans to wear their “Rockne Heritage” uniforms against the Naval Academy. In addition to the unique uniforms on display, the Irish host an emotional Senior Day on Nov. 18 when the Naval Academy travels to South Bend. The misplaced emotion of this contest could harm Notre Dame’s chances of winning. However, the Irish simply possess too much talent lose to an inferior roster. Navy gives it everything that it can once again but the Irish are too much for them in the end.
Prediction: Win
