Notre Dame heads to Boston in an attempt to get back on track after a loss to Georgia.

The Notre Dame football team attempts to rebound after a heartbreaking defeat against Georgia. The Irish enter the contest 1-1. Boston College holds the same record. However, these are two completely different teams headed in two completely different directions.

Boston College Offense vs. Notre Dame Defense

After reviewing Boston College’s offense earlier in the week, it appears obviously that the Eagle offense should not score more than 14 points against the Irish. The Boston College coaches probably know this as well. They will try to do whatever possible to get points on the board.

What does that mean? Trick plays. Misdirection. So far, Notre Dame’s defense has played disciplined. Any trick play probably gets shut down. But, it is something to keep an eye on.

More from Notre Dame Football

Junior Defensive Tackle Jerry Tillery should have a field day against Freshman Center Ben Patrula who replaces Senior Center Jon Baker. Tillery can single handedly wreck everything that Boston College is trying to do on offense.

Boston College Defense vs. Notre Dame Offense

The Notre Dame Offensive Line and Brandon Wimbush look to get back on track. Notre Dame needs to pay special attention to Defensive End Harold Landry. He may be the most talented defensive player that faces all season. The Irish struggled to contain Georgia’s pass rushers one week ago. The Bulldog defense had more “Harold Landry-caliber” players. Boston College does not. That should mean that Notre Dame can focus more attention on Landry. The Irish have several options: chipping with a Tight End or Running Back, leaving a Tight End to block or rolling out away from Landry.

The Notre Dame Coaching Staff wanted the Irish to become a run-first team in 2017. Against Temple, the Irish looked the part as they rushed for 422 yards. The following week against Georgia, Notre Dame gained an abysmal 55 yards. The Irish will try to reestablish the rushing attack against Boston College.

Bottom Line

Notre Dame fails to cover frequently against Boston College. However, if there was a time when the Irish covered the spread against the Eagles, it would be on Saturday. Notre Dame is favored by 13 points (at the time of publication). Even though history indicates this game might be closer than predicted, the differences in talent demonstrates that it will not be close.
