Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly met with the media via teleconference on Sunday following a 49-20 victory over Boston College. Kelly touched on many subjects but several surrounded updates on the roster:

Freddy Canteen Out For Year

Transfer Wide Receiver Freddy Canteen suffered a shoulder injury against Georgia. Kelly announced Sunday that Canteen’s injury required surgery, specifically to repair a torn labrum. This surgery will end his season.

Canteen began the season as a starter. However, he failed to make a significant impact. In two games, Canteen caught only one pass for seven yards.

Because he graduated after three years, two years of eligibility remained when he arrived at Notre Dame. Therefore, this does not conclude his college career.

Javon McKinley May Redshirt

Canteen was not the only receiver Kelly discussed on Sunday. The Notre Dame Head Coach also talked about Sophomore Wide Receiver Javon McKinley.

The Irish coaching staff plans to redshirt McKinley if possible. During his Freshman campaign, McKinley played on special teams.

McKinley joined the Notre Dame football program as the top receiver recruit in his class. According to 247Sports Composite, he ranked as the 18th best Wide Receiver recruit and the 117th overall prospect. Other players in McKinley’s class, like Kevin Stepherson and Chase Claypool, passed him quickly.

Tony Jones Jr. Day-to-Day

Tony Jones Jr. suffered a minor injury during Saturday’s game. Kelly said x-rays were negative for the Sophomore Running Back in his post-game press conference.

Kelly updated his status on Sunday. Jones is now day-to-day. Dexter Williams picks up the slack for the Running Back group.
