Opponent Power Rankings: Week of Sept. 18

The Irish defeated the Boston College Eagles, 49-20. The Notre Dame football team is three weeks into the 2017 season. Here is where the opponents on the Irish slate currently rank against each other:

The Trojans survived a scare from Texas on Saturday night. USC looks vulnerable. Their victory over Stanford looks less impressive after the Cardinal lost to San Diego State this week. The Trojans faces Cal in Berkley this week.

After beating Notre Dame, Georgia defeated Samford, 42-14. The Irish are the only team that the Bulldogs have faced this season. It is difficult to say how good Georgia is. The Bulldogs face Mississippi State this week.

The Miami (FL) Hurricanes have not played since Hurricane Irma affected the whole state of Florida. Their game against Florida State was postponed to October 7th. Miami (FL) the Toledo Rockets this week.

Wake Forest defeated Utah State, 46-10. Mike Elko’s former team is allowing 9.0 points per game. They currently rank 4th in the country in points allowed. The Demon Deacons face Appalachian State next week.

North Carolina State defeated Furman, 49-16, on Saturday. The Wolfpack began the season with a loss to South Carolina, 35-28. The following week, NC State beat Marshall, 37-20. Next week, the Wolfpack faces a big test this week against Florida State.

Navy began the season 2-0 with victories over Florida Atlantic and Tulane. Last week, the Midshipmen had a bye. This week, Navy faces Cincinnati who is coming off a victory over Miami (OH).

After pounding Rice in their opener, the Stanford Cardinal have lost two straight games. Stanford dropped a big game to USC, 42-24. This past week, the Cardinal were upset by the San Diego State Aztecs, 20-17. Stanford looks to rebound against UCLA.

North Carolina defeated Old Dominion last week. The Tar Heels lost to California and Louisville to begin the season. North Carolina is struggling to replace Quarterback Mitch Trubisky. The Tar Heels face arch rival Duke this week.

Michigan State opened the season with victories over Bowling Green and Western Michigan. The Spartans had this week off prior to facing Notre Dame. The Irish and Spartans face off in East Lansing, Michigan at 8:00 p.m.

Boston College lost to Notre Dame, 49-20. The Eagles began the season against Northern Illinois. The Huskies lost to Boston College, 23-20. The Eagles then were beaten by Wake Forest, 34-10. Boston College faces #2 Clemson this week .

Chuck Martin’s Miami (OH) Redhawks opened the season with a 1-2 record. The Redhawks defeated Austin Peay, 31-10. However, they dropped games to Marshall and Cincinnati. Miami (OH) meets Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant.

After losing to Notre Dame in the opener, 49-16, the Owls won their next two games. Temple defeated Villanova, an FCS team, by only 3 points. Next week, Owls beat one of the worst teams in FBS, UMASS, 29-21. Temple battles South Florida on Thursday at 7:30 on ESPN.
