Notre Dame football recruiting class received commitment No. 17 on Sunday.

Hometown hero and Penn High School standout Paul Moala committed to Notre Dame. Moala becomes the 17th player to join the 2018 Notre Dame football recruiting class.

Moala received an offer from Notre Dame this summer when he worked out in front of Irish coaches at the Irish Invasion. Although many expected him to pull the trigger immediately, he took his time in making a decision.

The Penn High School Star received offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Hawaii, Indiana State, Iowa, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Utah State, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan. He ranks as the 787th prospect and 60th Safety in the 2018 class.

Moala joins one of the nation’s top recruiting classes. Currently, according to 247Sports, the Irish rank as the 10th best in the country. Moala joins Safety Derrik Allen in the backend of the Notre Dame defense. Allen might be the top commitment in the 2018 class.

Irish Offer Florida Safety Avonta Crim

Vanguard Safety Avonta “BJ” Crim received an Irish offer while on an official visit to Notre Dame. Crim, a 2018 recruit from Ocala, Florida, ranks as the 1481st prospect in the country. He holds scholarship offers from Louisville, Wake Forest, UCF, Bowling Green, FAU, Georgia St., Iowa, Ohio, Rutgers, So. Miss, Troy and Western Kentucky. Crim checks in at 6’0″ 195lbs.

With Notre Dame receiving a commitment from Moala and already hold a commitment from Allen, it seems unlikely that the team would take a verbal from Crim.

Another item affecting this situation is transfer Alohi Gilman. Gilman, who attempted to gain eligibility this season, transfer from the Naval Academy this year. His attempt to receive a waiver from the NCAA was denied. This effectively means that Gilman is apart of the 2017 class. Therefore, Notre Dame might not take Crim’s commitment even if he wanted to give it.
