Notre Dame football is starting to gain the national recognition that they deserve. Here are some of the places the Irish are receiving high praise.

ESPN Projects Notre Dame in College Football Playoff

ESPN is projecting that the Fighting Irish will make the College Football Playoff. One projection lists Notre Dame and Georgia meeting in a rematch in the Rose Bowl. A trip to the Rose Bowl has not occurred since 1924 when the Four Horsemen battled the Stanford Cardinal. Another writer projects that the Irish would face top-ranked Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. These projections are a huge jump from ESPN projecting Notre Dame in the Pinstripe Bowl last week.

With the College Football Playoff rankings debuting on Tuesday, the meaning of the Coaches and AP polls is about to become minimal. However, the Associated Press Poll ranked the Irish No. 5 in their most recent poll. Notre Dame sits behind Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Wisconsin.

The Coaches Poll did not look at Irish as favorably. They ranked Notre Dame No. 8 in the nation.

Notre Dame will probably be ranked near the Top 4 when the College Football Playoff rankings are revealed. The Irish have three wins against teams ranked in the AP Top 25.

Josh Adams continues to gain traction in a possible Heisman Trophy campaign. Yesterday, Adams rushed for 202 yards against the country’s sixth best rushing attack. On the season, he rushed for 1169 yards on 132 carries. His gaudy 7.48 yards per carry average ranks sixth in the FBS.

Adams is getting more attention from the national media. He climbed to fourth on this list. Poor performances by Saquon Barkley and Bryce Love (injury) may make a difference in the perception of the Irish Junior Running Back. Brian Kelly asked voters to hold off casting their ballots until the end of the season.
