Notre Dame Football Opponent Preview: Miami (FL) Hurricanes Defense
By Andrew Hall
The Notre Dame football team looks to continue its turn around season against Miami (FL). The Hurricanes defense presents a unique challenge for the Irish. Miami’s speed might match Georgia’s team speed. Here is a quick preview of the Hurricanes defense.
Defensive Line
Miami’s Defensive Line of Chad Thomas, Kendrick Norton, RJ McIntosh and Joe Jackson is a formidable group. Defensive End Joe Jackson leads the Defensive Line group with 38 tackles including 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
A fun side story on Saturday’s game is the matchup between the McIntosh brothers. Notre Dame Running Back Deon McIntosh and Miami Defensive Linemen RJ McIntosh are two of three talented McIntosh brothers. Kenny McIntosh, who is a Junior at University School in Fort Lauderdale, might be the most talented of all. According to his recruiting profile, Kenny currently ranks 87th in the 247Sports Composite.

Linebacker
This extremely young, athletic and fast group is the biggest threat to Notre Dame’s success on Saturday. With their speed and athleticism, the Hurricane Linebackers may be able to limit the rushing attack similar to Georgia.
Middle Linebacker Shaquille Quarterman leads Miami (FL) in tackles with 47. In addition to his 47 tackles, Quarterman made 4 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.
Alongside Quarterman, Zach McCloud and Michael Pinckney start at the Strongside and Weakside Linebacker positions. From their positions, McCloud and Pinckney have tallied 21 and 43 tackles respectively.
Defensive Back
Miami’s Defensive Backs are great at taking the ball away. Currently, as a team, the Hurricanes rank 8th in the country with 13 interceptions.
Michael Jackson, a reserve Cornerback, leads the team with 4 interceptions. Behind Jackson, Sheldrick Redwine and Jaquan Johnson sit with 2 interceptions each. Redwine and Jackson hold down the back end of the defense. Johnson is the team leader in tackles with 58 total stops.

At the two Cornerback spots, Dee Delaney and Malek Young start. Young, a 5’8″ player from Fort Lauderdale, might give the Irish an opportunity to use their big receivers like Chase Claypool in a jump ball opportunity.
