Notre Dame Football: 3 bold predictions for Irish-Hurricanes
By Chase Eyrich
Prediction #2: Miami can put away the turnover chain
Miami is doing things in the most Miami way possible. And that’s not said with any negative connotation, I actually like the idea of giving a player something to celebrate with after a big play that has an effect on the game. Especially when its a 5.5-pound gold chain.
For those of you who haven’t seen the latest trend in college football, teams are celebrating by giving whatever defensive player just came out with a takeaway by rewarding them immediately on the sideline with some type of prop. For Miami, it’s a massive gold chain with the “U” logo hanging on it.
Unfortunately for Miami’s defensive players hoping to be the next to throw that turnover chain around their neck, they will have to wait an extra week.
Where does Miami get the majority of their turnovers? In the secondary. And while I think Wimbush will do more damage with his arm, it’s for one thing, to set up the run. The passing would be to make Notre Dame more dynamic and keep Miami honest.
Notre Dame won’t throw to target Miami’s secondary. They are far too good in pass defense for that. The Irish will go to the air to back up the second line of defense and give Adams the ball. A guy who doesn’t let go of the ball until he’s in the end zone. Notre Dame only has 3 fumbles this season and those coming in the first three weeks of the season. The Irish haven’t had a turnover in five games this year and that trend doesn’t seem to be changing.
