Notre Dame looks to notch its 10-win of the season against their rival and peer Stanford.

The Notre Dame football team looks to win another trophy this weekend against Stanford. Prior to their matchup against the Cardinal, the Irish Head Coach Brian Kelly looked ahead to Saturday’s game.

Who’s Wearing Who Down?

Notre Dame discussed the health of his team as well as the style of play they will bring to Palo Alto.

Several players suffered injuries on Saturday. According to Brian Kelly, Equanimeous St. Brown, Dexter Williams and Cam Smith will all practice this week. Williams and Smith will practice without any restrictions. St. Brown will participate in a non-contact capacity. Although Kelly did not say this, it seems very unlikely that St. Brown will play.

Julian Okwara was a notable scratch from last week’s game. This was not due to injury. Kelly said that Okwara did not play due to the type of scheme Notre Dame was facing. It simply did not match his skill set.

Whether Notre Dame is wearing down this November is a debate for many this week. These injuries would indicate that perhaps the Irish are wearing down. However, Kelly said that the Irish need to get back to “wearing people down.”

The Irish might be able to wear the Cardinal down. Stanford ranks 71st in the country in rushing defense. The Cardinal allow 171.73 yards per contest.

Notre Dame Blasts Brian VanGorder

Following a question about what he would do differently in the 2015 Stanford game (22:21 mark of the press conference), Kelly said, “We just won’t play the prevent to win defense.”

This comment was directly in reference to former Notre Dame Defensive Coordinator Brian VanGorder. In the 2015 Notre Dame-Stanford game, the Cardinal got into the position to kick a game-winning 45-yard field goal.
