Notre Dame Football: Regular Season Grades (Offense)
By Andrew Hall
“33 Trucking” was the motto of the Notre Dame team for the majority season. This impromptu Heisman campaign floundered with the poor play of the Irish near the end of the season.
The real reason is Adams’ injuries. After rushing for 202 yards against NC State, Adams rushed for 22, 40, 106 and 49 yards respectively.
However, this end should not blind us about how great Adams played for the majority of the season. Adams rushed for 1386 yards with 9 touchdowns. He topped 200-yards twice and the century mark seven times.
Adams played as well as any Irish Running Back in history against USC and NC State. Against the Trojans, he ran for 191 yards on 19 attempts with 3 touchdowns. Against the Wolfpack, Adams pounded the Irish to pounded NC State into submission.
Deon McIntosh, Tony Jones Jr. and Dexter Williams also contributed to the success of the Running Backs.
McIntosh rushed for 368 yards on 65 attempts. He was the unsung hero of this position group. The hits that McIntosh had on 65 rushes helped keep Adams fresh.
Junior Dexter Williams rushed for 324 yards on 37 attempts. Sophomore Tony Jones Jr. ran for 232 yards on 43 rushes.
