With signing day only a couple weeks away, Notre Dame is trying to find the right mix of recruits.

Another commitment dropped their pledge to Notre Dame on Saturday. This time, Etiwanda High School Wide Receiver Geordon Porter pulled out of the 2018 Notre Dame football recruiting class.

Last week, long-time Running Back Markese Stepp decommitted from the Fighting Irish. Although it was not apparent why he withdrew his pledge, Stepp most likely could not receive admission to the University.

It is unclear why Porter removed himself from the class either. However, it might have been a mutual decision.

More from Slap the Sign

In the last few weeks, the Notre Dame staff rekindled its relationship with former Irish and Oregon commit Braden Lenzy. With Micah Jones and Kevin Austin committed, Porter might not have wanted to be a part of a class that included so many receivers.

Porter hails from Rancho Cucamonga, California. He holds offers from Arizona State, Utah, Alabama, Cal, Colorado, Colorado State, Duke, Georgia, Hawaii, Purdue, San Jose State, UCLA, UNLV and Washington State.

Notre Dame will continue to pursue some of the top Wide Receivers in the country including Lenzy. The Irish staff has made in-home visits with Lawrence Keys III and Amon-ra St. Brown. Both players are high on Notre Dame’s list.

Losing Porter’s speed might hurt the Irish in the short run. However, if they can land Lenzy (again), his loss will immediately become an after-thought.

Early Signing Period

Early signing period kicks off on Wednesday, December 20th. For three days, Division I prospects can sign their letters of intent. Everyone currently committed to Notre Dame plans on signing during this timeframe.

Currently, Notre Dame holds commitments from 17 prospects including Quarterback Phil Jurkovec and Safety Derrik Allen. The Irish coaching staff will likely attempt to add 6 to 8 more prospects before the final signing day in February.
