Two Notre Dame football players received another accolade on Monday afternoon.

On Monday, a pair of Irish Offensive Linemen landed on another All-American team. Mike McGlinchey and Quenton Nelson made the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) All-American team.

Both McGlinchey and Nelson finished as first-team All-Americans. Oklahoma’s Orlando Brown, Western Michigan’s Chukwuma Okorafor and Ohio State’s Billy Price joined the two Offensive Linemen along the Offensive Line.

More from Notre Dame Football

Depending on whether or not these two Irish players land on more All-American lists, they may become unanimous All-Americans.

At this point, they are at least consensus All-Americans regardless of whether or not they are picked on other teams. In Notre Dame’s history, 99 players received consensus status; landing on every single significant All-American list.

The last consensus All-Americans were Offensive Tackle Ronnie Stanley and Linebacker Jaylon Smith. Before that, Manti Te’o (2012), Golden Tate (2009) and Jeff Samardzija (2005) received consensus All-American status.

In the long and storied history of Notre Dame football, no pair of Irish Offensive Line finished as first-team All-Americans on the FWAA All-American team. In 1993, Offensive Linemen Aaron Taylor and Defensive Back Bobby Taylor were two Notre Dame teammates that garnered this honor.

McGlinchey and Nelson also landed on the Associated Preview, Sports Illustrated and Walter Camp All-American teams among others.

In order for these two players to become “unanimous” All-Americans, they would need to be selected to the Sporting News and AFCA All-American teams.

Julian Love Receives Recognition

Sophomore Cornerback Julian Love also landed on an All-American list. Sports Illustrated named Love to their second-team All-American list.

His stellar Sophomore performance did not go unnoticed. Love finished the 2016 regular season with 62 tackles, 17 passes broken up and 3 interceptions (including 2 touchdown returns).

It is truly surprising that such an amazing performance went unnoticed by so many people. His 17 passes broken up landed in the record books.
