Notre Dame lands at No. 29 in the Fandom 250, a list of the best fanbases.

Each year, FanSided (our network) attempts to rank the best fanbases in the world. No, this is not strictly which college possesses the best fans or what movie receives the biggest following. It is much more. The “Fandom 250” ranks everything from sports teams, television shows, athletes, actors. If it has fans (basically), it is on the list.

This year, the Ohio State Buckeyes took home the title of the best fanbase. If you travel through Ohio, you know how obnoxiously proud their fans are.

Where did the Notre Dame Fighting Irish? As a college team, they ranked third behind Ohio State and Alabama. Overall, the Irish landed at No. 29 just after world-renowned soccer franchise Real Madrid and ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs.

More from Notre Dame Fighting Irish

It is hard to argue that the Irish fans deserve more credit than the supporters of the Buckeyes and Crimson Tide. Face it. Against Georgia, approximately 40,000 Bulldogs fans stormed in Notre Dame Stadium. Why? Notre Dame fans chose money over their team.

Now, perhaps that is the smart and prudent thing to do. Georgia fans offered a ridiculous amount of money to see their precious Dawgs play in the “House That Rock Built.” But, fans are not rational people!

They stay up at night tossing and turning in anticipation of the upcoming game. Fans purchase an absurd amount of gear and swag (something that Notre Dame fans actually do well at the Hammes Bookstore). Some fanatics, like Robert DeNiro in Silver Linings Playbook, believe that their actions truly impact the game.

Notre Dame fans reach far and wide. Regardless of where a person lives geographically, the second favorite team in the area is probably the Irish. They blanket this country like freedom.

Fans of the Irish need to embrace being a little crazy. A little crazy might help Notre Dame become the best fan base in the world.
