Many Notre Dame football fans want Wimbush gone but here is why he should Quarterback the team from this point forward.

Brandon Wimbush failed to live up to the lofty expectations awaiting him in 2017. Because of his failures, the Notre Dame football team stumbled down the stretch.

During the 2017 campaign, Wimbush completed only 49.8% of his passes for 1818 yards with 16 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He added 765 yards with 14 touchdowns on the ground.

His dynamic running ability truly impacted the red zone efficiency of the Fighting Irish. For comparison, in 2016, the Irish scored touchdowns on 62.5% of red zone trips. This year, Notre Dame landed in the end zone on 75.6% of possessions inside the 20-yard line. But, the 2016 version of the Notre Dame football team was terrible. What about a good team? The 2015 Irish team only scored touchdowns on 58.5% of their times in the red zone.

Overall, his production ranks low among his predecessors. In total yardage, Wimbush only outpaced Dayne Crist in 2010. Crist, in a shortened season, generated 2107 yards of total offense. Wimbush recorded 2583 yards.

Wimbush’s inability to pass the football help teams defeat Notre Dame in the final two losses of the season. For the most part, he avoided turnovers. However, in losses, Wimbush threw a total of 4 interceptions. Until he improves, Notre Dame cannot compete for the College Football Playoff.

Despite not demonstrating the best passing skills, Wimbush remains as the most experienced and talented option. He can make all the throws need to be a successful college and NFL Quarterback. He is an extremely impressive runner.

Until Phil Jurkovec is ready, Wimbush must continue to start for the Fighting Irish. Avery Davis and Ian Book simply cannot put Notre Dame over the top. Further, if Wimbush improves his accuracy, he is exactly what every college football team wants. He is a deadly runner with an incredible arm.
