The drama between Head Coach Ed Orgeron and Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada might help the Notre Dame football defeat the Tigers.

This week, reports surfaced that LSU and current Offensive Coordinator Matt Canada will part ways at the end of the season.

Today, during a press conference following LSU’s practice, Head Coach Ed Orgeron said in response to Canada calling plays, “Matt right now is our offensive coordinator. He will call plays in the game.”

“Right now.” These two words speak loudest. Although Orgeron will not confirm that Canada is out, his subtle jab indicates that the rift between the two coaches will not heal.

The cause of the feud is unknown. However, it appears to stem from LSU’s upset loss to Troy. Orgeron asked Canada to limit the pre-snap shifts and motions that Canada uses frequently. From that point forward, the two coaches grew apart.

Canada is one of the highest paid Offensive Coordinators in the country. He makes $1.5 million dollars per year.

Drama Helping Notre Dame?

Last year, current FAU Head Coach Lane Kiffin served as the Offensive Coordinator for Alabama. When he announced his move, he decided to stay on with the Crimson Tide until the end of the College Football Playoffs. After a less than impressive performance against Washington, Nick Saban removed Kiffin. This drama may have caused the Crimson Tide to lose the national title. It certainly did not help.

The same thing can be said about the LSU situation. It probably makes an impact on the game. The size of the impact is unknown. If the offense struggles early, will Orgeron meddle in the playcalling and strategy?

Also, the Tigers preparations likely suffer. Canada is a professional. However, he is human. Canada likely looks beyond the Citrus Bowl and towards his future in coaching. Mike Elko and the Irish defense should absolutely dominate the Tigers offense.
