Notre Dame football Spring Practice is underway and we have some positives to talk about.

Notre Dame football Spring practice news is just like the news from every other Spring practice around the country: any good news is the best news and it all equates to winning a national title.

Wouldn’t that ne nice?

Realistically, all we can really hope for is that the players who need to step up and make progress do so and everyone stays healthy. If we can get through the Spring on those two notes, it’s a success.

Here at Slap The Sign, we’ve got our ears to the ground and our eyes on the tea leaves and Twitter feeds, looking for all the positives and hoping to avoid the negatives. Here are just a few of the positives we’ve seen and heard so far:

More from Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Brandon Wimbush is showing improvement

Wimbush opened Spring practice as the starting quarterback, and by all acounts, he’s done nothing to lose his job thus far. That’s a good thing. As I recently wrote, his mobility is an asset in today’s college football landscape — especially against the types of defenses the Irish will face in 2018. You want a guy who is comfortable in the huddle and a guy who everyone else in the huddle is familiar and comfortable with. Additionally, it sounds like he is on the same page with receiver Mile Boykin.

On that note…

Mile Boykin is embracing and excelling in the role of No. 1 WR

This is exactly what the irish needed with the departure of Equanimeous St. Brown. Boykin is Notre Dame’s most physically gifted receiver, and he’s going to see an uptick in targets — especially in the red zone. With some of the accuracy issues Wimbush has had in the past, having a big body like Boykin as a go-to is invaluable.

Bo Bauer is really good

The freshman linebacker and early enrollee is making his presence felt and impressing the coaching staff this Spring. It sounds like he’s good enough to see a lot of playing time in 2018, but his true value will be providing quality depth at the position.
