Notre Dame Football: Four Neutral-Site Dream Matchups for the Irish

Notre Dame football has a lot of freedom in the way of scheduling due to its independence. The powers-that-be need to make these matchups happen.

Notre Dame football fans are no strangers when it comes to traveling to fun and interesting locations to see their team play. From Fenway Park to Yankee Stadium, Soldier Field to AT&T Stadium, the Irish are always willing to take on anyone, anywhere — and the fans are more than happy to make the trip.

The upcoming game with Wisconsin at Lambeau Field in 2020 got our wheels spinning.

Nebraska at Arrowhead Stadium

Kansas City is the closest major metro to the heart of Husker Nation, and Arrowhead Stadium would serve as the perfect venue for a matchup between two of the winningest programs in the history of the sport. Arrowhead is one of the loudest stadiums in the world, and I’d like to think that Husker and Irish fans could make enough noise in the building to set a record. And can you imagine the scene in the parking lot of the tailgating capital of the universe?

Texas at The Alamodome

Forget Jerry World. There’s nothing more “Texas” than the Alamo and the Alamodome is just a hop, skip and jump away from the shrine itself. Longhorn fans would surely flock to the fiesta capital of the Lone Star State to watch their beloved team take on the Irish. And you know Notre Dame fans would be looking for an excuse to take in weekend on the famed Riverwalk.

Southern Cal in Las Vegas

I don’t care if they played this game at Sam Boyd Stadium or in the new home of the Raiders once it’s finished. Having the bright lights of Sin City serve as a backdrop to the annual rivalry game and a break from the home-and-home series would be a sight to see. It would be great to see the Irish faithful take over The Strip for a weekend.

Michigan at Wrigley Field

They’ve played football at Wrigley. They’ll do it again. There may be sacrifices in the way of logistics, but getting the chance to see the Irish take on their old hated rival in one of the greatest sports venues the planet has ever seen would be worth it. Ticket prices would be crazy, but this once in a lifetime event would be a bucket-list road trip for fans of both teams.
