The Notre Dame women’s basketball team will take on the Connecticut Huskies in the Final Four this weekend in Columbus, Ohio.

The Connecticut Huskies are the standard in women’s college basketball — if not the entire sports universe — at this moment. Their run of success and championships is unmatched, but their team is anything but unrivaled. If you are looking for UConn’s rival in the post-Pat Summit Tennessee era, I give you Notre Dame women’s basketball.

The Irish have been the Robin to UConn’s Batman in recent years. The two teams have met in the finals twice in the last five seasons. Of the handful of teams looking up at UConn from the second tier, Notre Dame leads that pack.

That said, UConn has dominated the rivalry.

The two programs will meet again this weekend in Columbus, Ohio. Both teams will undoubtedly have hoards of fans cheering them on, and we could very well be in for another classic.
