Former Notre Dame football offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey is one of the top offensive tackles available in the upcoming NFL Draft, but his style and skill set is a great fit for one particular team.

With the 2018 NFL Draft fast approaching, most experts are pretty confident that former Notre Dame football offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey is going to be taken somewhere in the first round.

McGlichey is widely regarded as one of the top offensive tackles on the board — some even think he may be the best. Either way, the offensive tackle position is always one of the most coveted during the draft and free agency — and McGlinchey will reap the rewards of that fact.

While at Notre Dame, McGlinchey show the ability to excel in both run and pass blocking. That said, he was a better pass blocker on plays where the quarterback was in motion by design. He tends to get overpowered by ends who have a straight-line path to the quarterback. On the other hand, his agility gives him the upper-hand when defenders need to stop, look, and move laterally to find the quarterback.

One thing that helps his value is his ability and willingness to play on both the right and left side of the line.

He’ll be most successful on a team with a fairly mobile quarterback and an offense built around that mobility.

Best Fit: San Francisco 49ers

He’d work well in other places too — particularly Seattle and Carolina — but the 49ers happen to be a young, rebuilding team obviously headed in the right direction. McGlinchey would be a welcome addition to the offensive line group from a talent standpoint and a good fit due to quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s underrated mobility. He would play a key role in any success the 49ers have in the immediate future.
