1. Bryce Love (Stanford)

This one is a given, right? All do respect to Baker Mayfield, but Bryce Love was college football’s best player in 2017. The Heisman runner-up surprisingly returns for his senior season after rushing for over 2,000 yards on 8.1 yards per carry and 19 total touchdowns. He did all that playing on a bum leg the majority of the season.

He even sat out one of their games.

Against Notre Dame in 2017, he carried the ball 20 times for 125 yards, but was held scoreless. That was the only time he was unable to put the ball in the endzone last year.

Backing up Love is another senior running back, Cameron Scarlett. Don’t underestimate Scarlett’s value to the Stanford program. He only touched the ball 100 times last year, but he found pay dirt 8 times. He is a good goal line back for the Cardinal, and can spell Love when need be.

If Stanford wants to do what is in Love’s and the programs best interest, giving Scarlett closer to 120 carries could be the right call in 2018.

Regardless, Notre Dame fans should expect another terrific season out of Bryce Love and the Stanford rushing offense.
