Notre Dame Football: Top 5 Wide Receivers Irish Will Face in 2018
By Jack Leniart
2. JJ Arcega-Whiteside (Stanford)
Irish fans should be familiar with the name JJ Arcega-Whiteside. The 6′ 3″ 222-pound receiver scored Stanford’s first touchdown in their game against Notre Dame last season.
He’s not the tallest guy, but he has a big frame and does a great job using his body to shield defenders when running routes.
In 2017, Arcega-Whiteside doubled the number of catches he had the previous season. He finished the year with 48 catches for 781 yards and 9 TDs, and cemented himself as Stanford’s number one receiver heading into 2018.
He’s in a similar situation as Skowronek from Northwestern. David Shaw and Stanford like to establish the run to open up the passing game. Arcega-Whiteside is a match-up problem for defenses on his own. Coupled with an effective run game, he should put up some big numbers this season.
