10: Pittsburgh, 2008

The only game on this list from the Charlie Weis era, this game was a heartbreaker in so many ways. Coming off a 3-9 season, Notre Dame was looking to rebound and ease some of the sting of the terrible season. The Irish went into halftime up 14, thanks to two Jimmy Clausen touchdown passes to Michael Floyd in the final 1:27 of the second quarter. They couldn’t capitalize, as Pitt held the Irish to just 7 yards on 10 third quarter plays.

Pitt chipped away at the lead, even overcoming a Notre Dame touchdown with 5 minutes left, scoring a touchdown of their own with 2:22 left. It only got worse, as the game ended up going into FOUR overtimes. After a back and forth battle in the first three overtimes, kicker Brandon Walker missed a field goal attempt in the top of the 4th OT, leaving an opening for a Pitt field goal to take the win, 36-33. It was Notre Dame’s 3rd loss of the season.
