Notre Dame football will be taking some very interesting and intriguing road trips in the next couple of years.

Those who know anything about Notre Dame football know that neither the team nor the fans shy away from traveling anywhere to play anyone. It goes hand-in-hand with being a national brand and a hot ticket all over the country.

During the 2019 and 2020 seasons, the Irish will pack their bags and travel to some locations they either don’t visit often or hold a special place in the history of the program and the hearts of the fans.

Here are the five most intriguing road games during the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

5. Sep. 2, 2019 at Louisville

The two programs have surprisingly met only once in history. That was back in 2014, when the Cardinals visited Notre Dame and came away with a 31-28 win. The early season tilt in 2019 will probably be the hottest ticket in Louisville outside of the Kentucky Derby, as fans will flock to see the Irish play in “Derby City” for the first time ever.

4. Sept. 21, 2019 at Georgia

The Bulldogs and Irish have faced off only twice — and never in Athens. The first meeting was in the 1981 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, where the Hershel Walker-led Georgia squad defeated Notre Dame 17-10 to clinch the national championship. The second meeting, of course, happened just last season, when the Bulldogs beat the Irish at Notre Dame Stadium 20-19. Watching the gold helmets run onto the field between the hedges will be quite the sight to see.

3. Oct. 26, 2019 at Michigan

It will have been nearly six years since the Irish visited Ann Arbor by the time this one kicks off. Right now, the Wolverines lead the series 24-16-1. That number is going to change this Fall when Michigan visits Notre Dame, and one of the greatest rivalries in the history of college football will be — at least temporarily — reignited. Regardless of the outcome in 2018, the Michigan faithful will be foaming at the mouth to welcome their old “friends” back to town in 2029.

2. Sept. 5, 2020 vs. Navy at MetLife Stadium

We all know how much this one means to each school and to college football as a whole. The two teams have play a total of seven times in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The last time they met there was in 2010, when Navy came away with a 35-17 win. This time, the Irish and their loyal following will arrive in the shadow of the Big Apple with revenge on their minds.

1. Oct. 3, 2020 vs. Wisconsin at Lambeau Field

Lambeau Field — home of the Green Bay Packers — is one of the true cathedrals of America football. It is truly hallowed ground, and Notre Dame playing there just feels right. The two teams have not met since 1964, and this will be Notre Dame’s first game at Lambeau. In an interesting bit of history and trivia, Green Bay Packers founder Curly Lambeau — whom Lambeau field is named after — played one season at Notre Dame. Also, even though this is technically a home game, there will be plenty of Badger faithful in and around the stadium doing their part to make it feel like anything but home for the Irish.
