Notre Dame Football: Top 10 Wins Of The Brian Kelly Era
By Chase Eyrich
Notre Dame football head coach Brian Kelly is about to enter his ninth season at the helm of the historic program. Today we take a look at his top ten wins.
Brian Kelly has seemingly hit both sides of the spectrum as far as gathering support from the Irish faithful as head coach of the Notre Dame football program.
After finishing the first two seasons 8-5, Kelly asked for some time. He knew there was something special coming.
The very next season was what Notre Dame fans had been itching for — chance back to get back into the spotlight. An undefeated 12-0 regular season capped off with a National Championship appearance brought comfort and trust for Irish fans. But of course, the way that final game panned out had some asking for Kelly’s head.
The ups and downs have continued for Kelly. Two of the last three seasons have ended with ten wins. Most programs would kill for that type of success.
Instead, support was hard to come by with a 4-8 season sandwiched in between those two, and rightfully so. Nothing seemed to go right that season. It was a season that had high hopes with the Irish No. 10 in the preseason.
For some reason, Kelly seems to thrive in the underdog role as a coach. In 2012, as the Irish headed to the National Championship game, they entered the season unranked. The same was true for last year’s 10-3 season — one which saw the Irish as high as No. 3 and well in the playoff discussion.
Kelly has seen it all at Notre Dame, from failure to success. But he will not be considered successful by Notre Dame standards until a National Championship is won under his watch.
As he approaches season number nine at the helm of the Irish, we take a look at the Top 10 wins of Brian Kelly’s career at Notre Dame.
