Notre Dame basketball gets a visit from a big-time recruit this week.

A couple weeks ago, my colleague Chase Eyrich wrote a piece about a big man that could make Notre Dame basketball an instant ACC contender, even if for just one season.

Isaiah Stewart, a 6’8, 245 pound power forward out of Rochester, New York recently cut his list to ten schools:

As you can clearly see, Notre Dame was fortunate enough to make the cut. While the competition is extremely heavy and most pundits are favoring Duke, you have to like the news that came out today: Mr. Stewart will be on campus this week.

Stewart was in Bloomington this week, will be in South Bend on Thursday and Michigan State on Friday.

Isaiah is currently the No. 8 recruit in the country and recently went head to head with the No. 1 recruit, James Wiseman, and more than held his own. While they are not really the same type of player — Wiseman more of a stretch 4/5 and Stewart a “classic” big man — some were left wondering which was the No. 1 player in the class.

Here is a quick look at their recent clash:

Stewart (33) and Wiseman (32) are both college ready right now and whichever program lands either immediately becomes a contender in its respective conference.

For Notre Dame, Stewart would be the best immediate impact big man they have seen since Ryan Humphrey or Torin Francis.

Even though the odds may seem long in terms of Notre Dame basketball landing Isaiah Stewart, the fact that he has included the Irish in his final ten and is visiting the campus this week speaks volumes about Mike Brey’s recruiting prowess.
