7. Ryan Humphrey, 2000-2002

Humphrey was one of Coach Brey’s first big wins with the program. After playing at Oklahoma for two seasons, Humphrey transferred to Notre Dame.

A true back to the basket big man, Ryan was a tremendous athlete. He could run the floor extremely well and finish on the break with authority. Perhaps his biggest asset was his ability to positively impact that the game on the offensive end without having plays run specifically for him.

In both his seasons in South Bend, he averaged three or more offensive rebounds per game. This has a direct correlation with his 16.6 points per game average. Overall, for his career, he averaged a double-double in an Irish uniform, averaging 10 rebounds per game to go with those 16.6 points.

Humphrey’s largest impact however, was on the defensive end. In his two seasons as a Fighting Irishman, he averaged 2.8 blocks per game and provided an amazing 7.1 defensive win shares. To give you some perspective, 2017-18 ACC DPOY Isaiah Wilkins had 7.8 defensive win shares…for his entire career.

Ryan is currently an Assistant Coach for Coach Brey after playing professionally from 2002-2013. He joined the staff in 2016.
