3. Luke Harangody, 2006-2010

“The Goat.” The 6’8, 245 pound post-man could only be described in one way: Awesome.

The Indiana native was ranked No. 89 in his recruiting class in 2006. He wasn’t even considered to be one of the top three players in his STATE, which seems blasphemous at his point. But, hindsight and all that being what it is, let us move along to the gravy.

As a freshman, Luke received a heavy dose of on the job training. On a team that went 24-8, he played north of 20 minutes per game and averaged 11 points and 6 rebounds per.

I am not sure anyone was ready for what came during his sophomore campaign.

After the departure of Russell Carter and Colin Falls, it became the year(s) of The Goat. Harangody averaged 20.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game en route to being named Big East Player of the Year as a sophomore. He averaged 28 points per 40 minutes played and shot 50% from the floor.

He followed that performance up with a 23.3 point and 11.8 rebound per game junior season. Somehow, Hasheem Thabeet and DeJuan Blair were named Big Easy C0-Players of the Year.

Harangody came back for his senior season and put up a modest (by his standards) 21.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, bringing his career numbers to a mind blowing 2476 points and 1222 rebounds. He was named to the All-American Second Team each year over his final three seasons.

Luke was taken with the 52nd overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics. He currently plays overseas for the Ratiopharm Ulm in Germany.
