The Irish have had a good run on the recruiting trail over the course of the last couple days. This time, they added a talented tight end to the recruiting class of 2020.

Notre Dame football just got a whole lot better. Tight End Kevin Bauman out of New Jersey committed to the Irish Wednesday.. The Irish offered Bauman at the end of May and Bauman was on campus for a visit a few days later. At that point, he was able to take a trip to South Bend and be around the historic campus. Knowing he would be adding to the tradition to what most like to call “Tight End U,” it was a no-brainer. Bauman goes to school at Red Bank Catholic in New Jersey which is also the high school of former Irish star and top-10 NFL Draft selection, Quenton Nelson. I’m sure the staff is hoping to get another first-rounder out of Red Bank with Bauman.

As of right now, Bauman holds 12 offers as a junior from the likes of Texas A&M, Michigan and Nebraska among others.

The ripple effect Bauman might bring:

The Irish staff usually always tries to take a tight end each recruiting cycle because they know how important they are to their offensive system. But with Bauman now committing early to the Irish in addition to the staff feeling very good about another 2020 tight end, the staff could pass this cycle and land two of the best tight ends in the 2020 class.

The staff already has one piece of the puzzle in Bauman and I would be surprised if the last piece didn’t fall into place. What Tight End wouldn’t wanted what to play for “Tight End U”?

Only time will tell but this is a great place for the staff right now.

Bauman the Player:

The 6’5, 230-pounder is a big in-line tight end who has a ton of power coming off the line. He’s just now going into his Junior year after a good sophomore year, where he caught five touchdowns and had close to 400 yards receiving to go with it.

His strengths are being attached to the line and being a blocker who can release into the open field, but don’t get me wrong, he is still a very athletic tight end who can make a snag wherever the ball is thrown to him. He also has really good quickness when he comes off the line for such a big guy. He’s a very impressive player and he’s only going to get better with experience and growth. It should be an exciting two years to keep an eye on his capabilities.

Kevin Bauman joins Quarterback commit Drew Pyne to the 2020 class and both of them are ecstatic to get things rolling. This could be the next great duo at Notre Dame and they are starting the 2020 class off this a massive bang.
