Best Coach

Carlee North: How can Muffet McGraw not be the best coach last season for Notre Dame sports after the ups and downs on the season? Winning the national championship sealed this one.

Nathan Erbach: Gia Kvaratskhelia (Fencing). Back to back National Championships is a pretty impressive feat, therefore, it is hard to go against Kvaratskhelia here. To go along with the Team National Championship, Notre Dame also had 10 All-Americans (5 men and 5 women) and one individual National Champion in Nick Itkin. To put it simply, Notre Dame is the pinnacle for NCAA Fencing.

Jack Leniart: Muffet McGraw. Few coaches in Notre Dame’s history can match the success that Muffet McGraw has had during her tenure. This past season is one that she will remember forever. In my nomination for Best Team, I talked about the resilience of the Notre Dame Women’s basketball team. That resilience starts with their leader and head coach. Coach McGraw helped to keep this team steady and focused at every turn of the season. She helped them believe they could conquer any obstacle in their way. And they did.

Sonny Martinez: Muffet McGraw. McGraw did an excellent job coaching up the women’s basketball team into an elite team. Special mention to Gia Kravatskhelia, who lead the fencing team to a dominant season.

Connor McJunkin: Muffet McGraw. Talk about a dream season. Coming off a season where her team had back-to-back upsets to win her 2nd National Championship (despite a roster shredded with injuries), she picked up her 800th career win at ND, and won the AP Coach of the Year award….can’t ask for much more.

J.P. Scott: Muffet McGraw. To overcome injuries and mesh so many different kids of talents on her roster was amazing. She had an answer for every hurdle along the way and it obviously paid off.

And the Slappy goes to:
