COLUMBUS, OH – MARCH 30: Arike Ogunbowale /

Best Female Athlete

Carlee North: Arike Ogunbowale. This was a no-brainer. Two game winners in the Final Four and to win a National Title? You can’t beat that.

Nathan Erbach: Arike Ogunbowale. Much like Morris for the men, Ogunbowale was the best player on one of the best team’s in her NCAA sport. However, she lead her team to a National Title. Ogunbowale averaged 21/5/3 for the Irish and hit two of the craziest shots you’ll ever see; a buzzer beater during the final four against powerhouse UConn, and another in the National Championship game.

It was truly a remarkable run for the women, and something that won’t be forgotten for a long time. Ogunbowale cemented herself in Notre Dame Sports history. She finished the year as a Second-Team All-American, Final Four Most Outstanding Player and was a finalist for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award. This was another no brainer selection.

Jack Leniart: Arike Ogunbowale. Ogunbowale was the leader of the 2018 national championship team. She consistently made impact plays on both ends of the court. This past season, she delivered two of the biggest sports moments in Notre Dame history. She was an easy choice for Best Female Athlete and would have received my vote for Best Overall Athlete.

Sonny Martinez: Arike Ogunbowale. Arike was responsible for THE two biggest baskets in Notre Dame women’s basketball history in back to back games. This sent the Irish to the championship game and also to win the championship. She also averaged over 20 points per game throughout the season.

Connor McJunkin: Outside of her back-to-back Mamba Moments during March Madness, Ogunbowale is still more than qualified for this Slappy Award. She averaged just under 21 points/game which led the ACC, set a new ND women’s record for points in a season (791), was named the Final Four Most Outstanding Player, and was a Second Team All-American.

J.P. Scott: Arike. She broke the single-season scoring record, led her team to the national title with those two monster shots and will break Skylar Diggins’ career scoring record next season. She’s the best.

And the Slappy goes to:
