The Notre Dame football coaches have been busy on the recruiting trail, and with limited spots left, questions remain on how the 2019 class will shake out.

With 15 commitments and a July dead period, recruiting will begin to slow down a bit for Notre Dame football. However, the Irish received some more positive news for the 2020 class this week in the form of four-star tight end Michael Mayer, and a few more 2019 targets are set to announce in the coming days.

Maybe the month of July won’t be so slow after-all.

Let’s take a look at the 2019 Notre Dame Football Recruiting Big Board, starting with the backfield.

Quarterback

Commits: None

2019 QB recruiting has been interesting to follow for Notre Dame fans. The staff received an early commitment from Nevada prospect Cade McNamara, but he is now in the Michigan class. With Phil Jurkovec on campus and Drew Pyne committed for 2020, Notre Dame’s QB situation is in good shape. That hasn’t stopped the coaching staff from making QB a priority in 2019.

Since the McNamara departure, the staff has made failed attempts to land Max Duggan (TCU commit) and Graham Mertz (Wisconsin commit).

Virginia three-star Brendon Clark is next in line, and a decision is on the horizon. Clark recently took an official visit to Notre Dame and loved what he saw. Clemson and North Carolina remain in the mix, but Notre Dame seems to be trending in the right direction. An announcement this week is the expectation.

Running Back

Commits: Kyren Williams (Missouri)

A highly talked about position group over the last year. Coach Autry Denson has been under the microscope after the dismissals to CJ Holmes and Deon McIntosh and landing two three star running backs (Jahmir Smith and C’Bo Flemister) in 2018. Notre Dame fans want a big splash at the position, but 2018 doesn’t seem to be the year for that. Prospects King Doerue and Derrian Brown remain in play for the Irish, but the staff seems comfortable going into 2019 with Williams as the only newcomer.
