Irish alum Mike McGlinchey inked a huge deal on Sunday.

Former Notre Dame tackle and two-time captain Mike McGlinchey signed his rookie contract yesterday for the San Francisco 49ers. The contract is worth $18.3 million dollars, while also being fully guaranteed.

Training camp begins in a week for the 49ers. Knowing McGlinchey is locked up should help boost the confidence for QB Jimmy Garapplolo and company.

McGlinchey was the ninth overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, joining Quenton Nelson in the Top 10 as the two Notre Dame linemen to go early in the first round.

In 2017, McGlinchey played as a left tackle where he was an All-American for the Irish. He also played right tackle throughout his Notre Dame career, starting in all 25 combined games during his junior and senior season.

As for the 49ers, they seem to like him at right tackle heading into camp — which isn’t a surprise. McGlinchey was part of an offensive line unit at Notre Dame that averaged over 415 total yards of offensive per game.

The 6-8, 310-pound lineman will surely help protect the $130+ million dollar quarterback. The 49ers have a chance to field one of the more dominant lines in the NFL this season, with six-time Pro Bowler Joe Staley right by McGlinchey’s side.

As for the Irish and the upcoming season, replacing McGlinchey and Nelson along the line won’t be easy or likely even possible. But the line group as a whole has a ton of athleticism and a healthy amount of veteran presence. It should only carry over as one of the top offensive lines in college football.

Congrats Mike!
