4. What type of impact is expected from Navy transfer Alohi Gilman?

Brian Kelly is on record saying that Gilman probably would have started last season if it wasn’t for NCAA transfer rules.

Clearly, Kelly has high expectations for Alohi Gilman.

But what exactly does he expect from the new safety? A hard hitter? A tackling machine? All of the above?

He hasn’t played in over a year, so it’s not unreasonable to expect a possible slow start. He also spent all of 2017 on the Notre Dame scout team.

Gilman has some great players around him to learn from. Nick Coleman is a senior who has plenty of experience with the program. He could be a great asset in terms of limiting Gilman’s learning curve.

As a second part of this question, what does Kelly think about incoming freshman Houston Griffith — a likely challenger to Gilman at the position?
